SCIENCE FAIR AT LUCY’S KINDERGARTEN
Sean volunteers to work at a booth during the school science fair. He teaches children the importance of exercise and the nature of the body’s cardiovascular system. Kids spend 30 seconds running-in-place and test their heart rates before and after. |

ROLAND COOLEY DIES
Much loved neighbor Roland Cooley dies in his home at around 9:00am from heart failure in his on-going battle with diabetes. He will be sorely missed. |

2ND MEETING WITH OAKLAND SCORE
Will Harper accompanies the executives to SCORE for a follow-up appointment with Jim Philpot. The executives outline the progress they’ve made in developing a business plan for Death & Taxes, Inc. Mr. Philpot seems only marginally impressed with their progress and still has trouble understanding the company’s profit motive. There’s still much work to do in turning the company into a viable enterprise. Mr. Philpot suggests attending a workshop and investing in a software application that assists in writing the plan.

SEAN TRAVELS TO ATLANTA AND MEETS ALAN GREENSPAN
Sean attends the National Executive Business Conference sponsored by AIG Insurance in Atlanta, GA. The keynote speaker at the conference is Alan Greenspan. In addition to hearing an inspirational talk about stabilizing oil prices and Mr. Greenspan’s desire for all immigrant college graduates to receive green cards, Sean gets his hair cut for $15. |

The executives meet with Ms. Sanders, Lucy’s kindergarten teacher at Redwood Heights Elementary School. Ms. Sanders suggests professional help to improve Lucy’s social skills and her ability to "pay attention" and "follow directions" in class. |

Peter Allen proposes that the company consider trading services for artwork and selling the artwork for profit. The proposal suggests that a subsidiary of Death & Taxes, Inc. should enter the business of art-dealership in exchange for what amounts to tax and financial planning advice. |

The homemade Mermaid costume tears, leaving Lucy without a costume for the impending Halloween festivities. The family quickly makes a last-minute shopping trip to the Halloween Super Store to compensate. The last minute shopping sets the company back nearly $50 |

RETURN ON INVESTMENT IN HALLOWEEN CANDY
The family buys four (4) economy priced bags of Halloween Candy. Lucy does her trick-or-treating in Piedmont -- a wealthier neighborhood than where headquarters is located -- and scores big on toys and chocolate bars. The company estimates a 15% return on their candy investment for the evening.

Several houseguests from Germany arrive. They stay with the family for two weeks and accompany Isabel on a grocery shopping trip. After learning several techniques in comparing prices and scaling down their “bread” expectations, the visitors cover the tab and the company gets free groceries

SEAN HAS A FLAT TIRE WHILE PRESENTING TAX UPDATE PROGRAM
After presenting an evening long program on year-end tax saving, CFO Sean Fletcher returns to the San Francisco garage where his car is parked to find that the air has come out of his tire.
This may present an unanticipated an somewhat expensive repair that will undoubtedly unbalance the family's already tight budget.

FINANCE MEETING
Sean holds an emergency finance meeting to discuss the best method for handling two upcoming birthdays and Christmas. Sage advice from the board allows the family to decide on a $100 allowance for Lucy’s birthday and a $200 allowance for all Christmas shopping. In addition, board president Allen Spore agrees to baby-sit Lucy so that Sean can take Isabel on a date (as her birthday present). Any other costs were to be supplemented through the sale of additional merchandise. The finance sub-committee also approves a $50 bonus to Lucy for her patience and hard work throughout the year. The company increases their marketing efforts for the sale of coffee cans and quarterly reports.

November 23rd: THANKSGIVING DAY
A pot-luck dinner with friends keeps the meal costs low and the executives are able to afford a free-range, corn fed Turkey. |

November 25th: CONVERSATION WITH LUCY
Sean discusses the $50 bonus with Lucy and encourages her to save a portion of it for the future. In an attempt to facilitate her understanding for how much money she is receiving, Sean describes, "this as about 10 Barbie Dolls worth of money." He also suggests investing it in a mutual fund, which draws confusion and protest from the six-year-old, but ultimately she relents. |

LUCY’S BALLET RECITAL AND BIRTHDAY PARTY
Lucy graduates from her first semester of ballet classes and attends a recital featuring excerpts from The Nutcracker Suite.
That same afternoon the family hosts her birthday party. Through the sale of another Savarin coffee can, the couple is able to take Lucy and several of her friends to a performance by “Splash Circus” at a theater in Berkeley. Afterwards, Lucy and her entourage walk to a nearby park for cake. Lucy is overwhelmed by the day’s activities and melts down.

MEETING WITH RICHARD LEE TO DISSOLVE CORPORATION
Sean and Isabel meet with their attorney Richard Lee to sign the paperwork necessary to dissolve the corporation prior to the end of the year. Lee informs them that they should obtain signatures from a majority of the board members, and that the company will not officially dissolve until the K-1 gets filed.
A tentative appointment is set for January 9th with the accountant, Thomas Andres. |

LUCY APPEARS IN DRAMATIZATION OF LITTLE RED HEN -- FAMILY FINDS THEY’RE A COSTUME SHORT
The company is faced with a dilemma: Lucy’s drama teacher has asked that children performing in the upcoming play should make their own costumes. Lucy is supposed to dress like a mouse and the couple has no costume for the performance and no budget for the purchase. They decide that black ballet tights and jumper will suffice. Isabel sews a tail while Sean stitches black felt around a wire hanger taped to a hair band to create home-made mouse ears. |

Board member and Business Development Sub-Committee member, Sue Mark and her husband Bruce attend dinner at headquarters. Bruce, a former engineer and technician for Pacific Gas and Electric Company provides some additional pointers in reducing home heating costs throughout the winter months, including covering windows with quilting in the evenings to reduce heat loss.
